The Making
Rubber milk is harvested during the night between midnight and 4am. All this because it's the coolest period of the day and therefore, the most suitable to a proper flow. In full sun, the latex would be too thick, there would be too much viscosity for it to flow easily. That is why, from the first rays of the sun, the harvest stops
Subsequently, we prepare the latex concentrate. In particular, 40% of the water is removed to ensure a high quality foam.
We use a 2 month old latex. Before that, the latex would be too young and the reaction would be too fast and would be difficult to control. And, on the contrary, if it is too old (between 4 and 6 months), the latex is self-destructive, it rotten. It will release natural gases that will prevent a good quality of foam. There will be bad smells, bubbles will form, the foam will tend to yellow .
After this mixing, the latex is made to mature with soap and a gelling agent for about fifteen hours to obtain perfect homogeneity.
This preparation is then placed in a specific machine in order to inject air. This air will allow to create the foam. The latex is lathered like eggs in snow: one volume of latex for seven volumes of air. For a lower density we put more air and for a higher density less air.
Finally, the foam is injected into the molds and then steamed for 45 minutes.
The mattress is removed from the mold and then washed 3 times in a wringer with clean water to finally be dried with hot air.
The finished mattress is sent directly to the workshop without going through intermediaries.
Here, we design and make, by hand, the inner and outer covers of the mattress.
Precision in Latex Manufacturing
Our latex mattresses are crafted with meticulous care, beginning with the precise harvesting of rubber milk during the coolest hours of the night for optimal flow. After concentrating the latex and ensuring the right age for optimal quality, a meticulous mixing and maturation process ensues to achieve perfect homogeneity. Injected into molds and steamed to perfection, each mattress undergoes rigorous washing and drying to ensure uncompromising quality and durability.
